The use of Academic Blogs can be used in many ways in the classroom. Each student should create their own person blog, where they will be able to post their own personal thoughts, post papers and assignments, post and receive comments to their peers, brainstorm ideas, post pictures, and for the use of classroom warm-ups.

Once all students have set-up their own blog, they may be connected to the teachers website or blog, so each individual blog is viewable to the class. Blogs can be incorporated into the overall grading of the course, as part of the percentage of their overall grade.

If you are going to incorporate the students blog as a part of their grade, there are many factors to consider:
- Number of comments on other students blogs - Number of blog posts - Depth of each blog post - Use of pictures and creativity / personalization - Number of blog posts for personal / informative / interesting material that was done outside of the classroom assignments

Classroom Warm-ups

Provided that students have access to a computer in the classroom, they may blog their warm-up, instead of writing it in a paper journal or notebook. Not only are blogs eco-friendly, they are an easy way for students to post their own thoughts. From here, students can access other students thoughts on the warm-up and post and receive comments/feedback.

Papers and Assignments

Instead of writing papers and assignments on paper and using ink, the use of a blog is an easy way for students to draft, create, develop, and revise their classroom papers and assignments. Students may post their papers to their blog, and the teacher can leave comments on each post giving constructive feedback, comments, and thoughts. Students can then go back to their blog post (or create a new one) to revise and reproof their original paper.

Students may also look at other students papers to brainstorm ideas, help students with their topics, and give their peers constructive feedback. Students can also be paired in groups where they can revise each others papers through their blog.

Snow days and Unexpected Days Off

Classroom blogs give classrooms the opportunity to even meet on snow days and days off! Students can access the teachers blog, look at their postings and even do any extra assigned topics or post to their own blog. Teachers may post a "snow day prompt" and have students write back to the prompt. Posting on these days off can even be earned as extra credit!
